“I Am Thankful for Western Michigan Christian School”

International Student Program at Western Michigan Christian School

The Western Michigan Christian International Program currently has 31 students from 4 countries and includes cultural activities and a spring break trip. We asked Mia, a WMC alumnus, to share her story.

During my time at WMC I flourished the most

internally and spiritually.

I am Myungha Kim, studying International Relations and Data Science at Calvin College, MI. I am thankful for WMC that it provided a great opportunity to grow internally through new friends, teachers, faithful education, various school activities and wonderful host families. As an international student, I had great resources that eased my transition and a great staff to reach out for help.

WELCOME Back To School at Western Michigan Middle and High School 2017-18!

BACK TO SCHOOL: Project Serve 2017

WMC STUDENTS BEGIN THE YEAR WITH PRAISE/WORSHIP and SERVING

WMC welcomed students this week Tuesday with sidewalk chalk greetings that included the word “Welcome” in 5 different languages, along with staff and student leader greetings. The 360 7-12 school then assembled for praise and worship followed by opening presentations given by Head of School Samuel Greer. Officer Scott VanWylen of the Mona Shores Police Department introduced the Ride with Pride program in which one student will win a car at the end of the school year.

The 71 Middle School students were dismissed to Treetop Adventure Park in Grand Rapids for team building while the 289 High School students went through school orientation sessions.

The High School students spent the afternoon serving the community at 17 different non-profit organizations along the lakeshore including the Tri-Cities YMCA, International Aid, Love in Action Grand Haven, LOVE In The Name of Christ Muskegon, Hope’s Outlet and Kids’ Food Basket. “This was a great way to start the year and included a great effort by all the students and staff on our Back to School Team,” said Assistant Principal Scott Liggett.

Head of School Samuel Greer shared, “It is important to set the tone for the year that includes spiritual development and having our school serve others.” Students and staff spent the afternoon cleaning, doing yard work, packing sack suppers along with other activities. Kathy Tabor, Director at Hope’s Outlet said, “The students worked very hard and moved a huge pile of clothes. We could not have done all of that in such a short period of time without them.”

Students had an abbreviated class schedule on Wednesday, along with small group activities and had a full day of classes Thursday.
