(Current Parents:  If you know of any family with an 8th grader

or they are considering WMC already,
please tell them about this event and share the above information
--thanks so much!)

(I am resending this portion of a previous Health Department email...please take notice of the reminder and the new red highlighted section!)

Dear WMCHS Parents,

The Health Department and State of Michigan has recently
released a new school requirement that all students ages 11-18
must have a Meningococcol vaccine (MCV4) for meningitis.
This is in addition to the Tdap booster that is required for high
school students if it has been more that five years since the last dose.

Each fall and spring, I am required by law to enter all of our
new students into the state's MCIR site and have 95% of our
students up-to-date with their immunizations or we will be
non-compliant with the state.  I have until November 1st to
achieve this feat (!), so I am asking you to PLEASE get your
teen's immunizations up-to-date by making an appointment
with your doctor or the Health Department for the Tdap booster
and the MCV4 vaccine in September.  I did start our ROSTER for
the state...we are only at 70% compliant.  Kudos to those of you
who have already scheduled or had their children immunized!
You make me really happy :)  But for those of you who still have
this on their "To Do" list, please take notice!  If the shots are not
administered, your student will not be able to come back to
school until they are up-to-date, unless you waive their
right to have them by filling out the necessary paperwork
at the Health Department.
The Tdap vaccine usually
costs around $50 and the Meningococcol costs around $100.
If the cost of the immunizations is a hardship for your family,
the Health Department  has informed us that the American Relief
and Recovery Act provides federal funding for these two vaccines.

To qualify:
1)  No insurance OR
2)  Underinsured--has insurance but it doesn't cover
immunizations OR
3)  Student has insurance but the family has to pay a co-pay
deductible which may be a hardship for them to pay OR
4)  Ages 11-18 years old

They do ask for a $15 administration fee per shot if you are
able to pay.  The health department does not bill your insur-
ance except for Medicaid.  The Health Department is located
at 209 E. Apple Avenue, and their phone number is 724-6246.
Immunization hours are Monday-Friday 12noon to 4:30PM.

Secondly on October 18, all of our 9th graders will be tested
by trained public health technicians from the state of Michigan
to check their hearing.  This is required by law and is paid for
by the state.  We are required to notify you of this screening
and ask that you let us know by phone or email if you choose
not to have your teen screened by September 17.

Please make every effort to schedule those immunizations
and let us know if you do not wish your child to have their
hearing checked on the 18th of October.  As always if you
have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the office!
