“Look at all that purple!” Mitch Landheer said as he looked at everyone in the Western Michigan Christian High School gym Thursday night, February 27. Mitch is a junior at WMCHS and has CF.Pagebreak The student council raised funds for cystic fibrosis research. Local physicians who had a connection with the school sponsored the event and students raised funds by having “dollar days” to be able to wear hats, sit where they want and other activities. Players from WMCHS and Covenant Christian both wore purple and white uniforms with the names of people with CF on their jersey. “It was amazing to see everyone in purple and to have the support of both schools and the community,” said Sarah Toman, chemistry and math teacher and the student council advisor at WMCHS, “Our student section was cheering with the Covenant Christian student section and there were CF families that traveled from Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. It was amazing to see God at work through this event.” There were five west Michigan families affected by cf present at the game, along with seventeen others named on player jerseys. WMCHS donated $1 for every ticket sold, donations were taken at the game, t-shirts were sold with proceeds going to CF research and Country Dairy donated proceeds from the sale of ice cream sandwiches, the Country Dairy “Cow Pie”. The student council presented a check to Pam Landheer of Spring Lake who accepted the $8,000 donation on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Igallery |
