LADY WARRIORS END UP SECOND IN STRONG FIELD AT SL INVITATIONAL

Our Lady Warriors volleyball team pretty much ran the board at the Spring Lake Invitational Saturday except for one main nemesis, Grant High School.

The Warriors came out strong defeating a very good Muskegon Reeths Puffer team.  Then WMC met Grant.  The Tigers covered the floor well and served very aggressively.  The Lady Warriors just couldn't find a consistent answer for their play.

After a loss in three sets, WMC defeated a strong Zeeland West team.  In quarterfinals, the Warriors met the crosstown Zeeland East and battled through three sets for another shot at Grant.  The first game echoed our first shot at them.  After a little rotational switch, the Warriors seemed to find themselves and came back with a strong win in the second.  They just ran out of points in the third and lost by two.
Vanessa Eekhoff came up with some very aggressive service points and aces at several crucial points in the day.   Rachel Bruinsma and Elyse Ray were very strong at the net with both kills and blocks.  Libero Ashley Ott once again controlled the back line.

"As a whole, it was a very consistent day.  It was a great day of competition with many of the teams pretty evenly matched.," WMC coach Bret Noordhof said. "It was a good opportunity to see how we match up with some of the stronger teams in the area, and to see what areas we most need to improve in preparation for post-season play."
