





| Muskegon Catholic stuns WMC in boys soccer |

Throw out the records when Muskegon Catholic Central and Western Michigan Christian hook up in boys soccer.
The unranked visiting Crusaders pulled off a 2-1 upset Thursday night over the second-ranked Warriors on Frank Gasior's goal with just over two minutes left in the second half.
“Our boys played great and came out with high energy,” said MCC coach Bill Moulatsiotis. I couldn't be more happy with the way they played.”
MCC improves to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the River Valley Conference, while WMC slips to 7-3-1 and 5-1.
"It's always hard to beat teams that outwork you and outsmart you," WMC coach Dave Hulings said. "Great game by Bill and his young players. Some coaches look for signature wins. This was a signature loss for us. Let's see what it does for us."
Erik VanFossen earned the assist on Gasior's goal.
Keith Kuharevicz scored an unassisted goal in the first half for MCC to tie the game at 1-1 with 16 minutes left in the first half. Alec Breit scored WMC's first-half goal 14 minutes into the game with an assist from Matt Wisen. The Warriors out shot the Crusaders 20-8.
Todd Hall picked up the win in goal for the Crusaders, while Jacob Berens suffered the loss for WMC.
“We kept up the pressure and absorbed their pressure toward our defense,” Moulatsiotis said. “Christian kicked a couple balls off the crossbar that almost went in.”
JUNIOR VARSITY: WMC beat Grand Rapids Potter's House 6-0. Eric Bourdo and Eli VanderVelde each scored twice for the Warriors while Jordan Betten and Max Purvis had single goals. Keeper Hunter Berens recorded the shut out. |
