|
Two "brothers" combined for three goals and two assists Tuesday night at Warrior Field to help Western Michigan Christian to an opening 4-0 River Valley Conference victory over Covenant Christian.
Senior Ryan Briggs started the scoring off an assist from sophomore Chaise Schuiteman with just eight minutes left in the first half to put the Warriors up 1-0 at intermission. Briggs opened the second half with another goal assisted by Schuiteman and then Schuiteman scored unassisted with 18 minutes left. Briggs is staying with the Schuiteman family in Fremont while his parents are in Africa where they are medical missionaries.
Senior Matt Wisen found the net two minutes later to end the scoring.
The Warriors (1-1-1, 1-0) out shot Covenant 14-4. Junior Jacob Berens posted the shutout with four saves.
" I think the difference was our conditioning as we were able to maintain the speed of play and pressure for 80 minutes. It eventually wore them out and we had some easy goals late," WMC coach David Hulings said. "We were fortunate the first half as we made some serious errors on defense that they did not capitalize on. It easily could have been 2-0 before we got on the board." |
