|
Two double-doubles spelled trouble for host Muskegon Orchard View Tuesday night as Western Michigan Christian cruised to a 71-47 win. The Warriors' two big men, 6-4, 205-pound senior Omari Lewis and 6-4, 265-pound freshman Bernard Smith combined for 37 points and 29 rebounds to lead the Warriors. Lewis put in 23 points from various locations while Smith made his WMC debut with 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. Returning two-time all-stater London Burris used his speed and ball handling ability to add 15 points and dish out five assists. Junior Jaylyn Gordon had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists while senior Jason Prince also had four assists. The three-time defending Class D state champion Warriors extended their win streak from last year to 15 straight by taking a 11-8 first quarter lead and led 27-23 at intermission and 48-39 going into the final period. “Omari (Lewis) made a huge difference. He scored 18 of his 23 points in the second and third quarters when we began to pull away,” veteran WMC coach Jim Goorman said. “Bernard (Smith) had a great opening game inside with his put backs and strong rebounding.” Goorman said he was also pleased holding a good Orchard View team to under 50 points.
