|
WMC had a great shot at a district volleyball upset Thursday night before losing a heart breaker to North Muskegon in four sets.
The Warriors started out strong in the opening set and hung on for a 25-22 win. In what many believe was the turning point, the Warriors held a 15-8 lead in the second set, only to have the Norsemen tie it up and then go on to win in a marathon 31-29 set. The Norse then won the third set 25-22 and the final 25-20. Victoria Arangure' had to sit out the third set with an injury and freshman Ashley Oosterhouse did a great job moving into the setting position at a critical time.
"Unfortunately, we let the Norse get a couple of small runs and did not recover from them," WMC coach Bret Noordhoff said. "We let them have a run at the beginning, but battled right back into it, but not quite enough to force the fifth set." Julie Merz had 17 service points including 5 aces along with 19 digs.
Lauren Merz had 17 digs, 25 kills on 45 attempts, 13 service points with 2 aces.
Elyse Ray had 15 kills on 38 attempts and 4 blocks.
Rachel Bruinsma added 11 kills on 33 attempts and 24 digs.
Victoria Arangure' had 32 assists on 105 attempts. Ashley Oosterhouse added 8 assists on 25 attempts.
Congratulation Lady Warriors on a fine season!
