LADY WARRIORS WIN DISTRICT OPENER, FACE NM IN GRUDGE MATCH THURSDAY

Our Lady Warriors beat Hart in three sets at home Tuesday to advance in the volleyball district to play North Muskegon at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ravenna High School.

WMC won the match in three sets with scores of 25-9, 25-21, and 25-18.

Victoria Arangure' had 15 service points with 4 aces.  Arangure' also had 20 assists on 56 attempts.  Elyse Ray also had 4 aces with 11 service points total.  Ray also contributed 4 blocks and 7 kills on 22 attempts.  Lauren Merz added 10 service points with 2 aces, 10 digs and 8 kills on 17 attempts.  Rachel Bruinsma led the attack with 10 kills on 28 attempts and 9 digs.

"It seemed we could do no wrong in the first set, then Hart settled down and really started to push us with their aggressive serves," WMC coach Bret Noordhoff said. "We let them in with a few too many missed serves on our part, but kept control with some very impressive defensive digs and strong offensive spikes.  We look forward to our match with North Muskegon and the chance to redeem an earlier loss to them at the Greater Muskegon Tournament."

WARRIOR RUNNERS HAVE GREAT DAY AT REGIONALS

Last Saturday morning the WMC Cross Country teams headed to Carson City to take part in state regional competition.

Although no one will be advancing to the State Finals, it was a highly successful day for the WMC harriers.  Each of the boys set a personal record.  Zach Buter led the way by breaking his own “modern” school record by almost a minute.  The other six runners setting personal records were Lucas Crandle, Isaac Oxendale. Gideon and Isaac Hanes, Brian Normandin and Brian Brook.  The boys defeated three other teams.

The girls were led by Adrienne Aardema who broke her own “modern” school record by over a minute.  Others setting personal records were Janneke De Kam, Sarah Van Winkle and Megan Bauer.  The girls defeated one other team.

"It was a great experience for me to watch the runners dedicate themselves to improving over the course of the fall season," WMC coach Dick Brook said.  "I enjoyed working with them and seeing them develop their running talent.  I was impressed with how they encouraged each other and those on other teams.  Great job WMC runners."
