LADY WARRIORS FINISH SECOND IN CONFERENCE TOURNEY AND HAND TRI-UNITY FIRST LOSS

WMC hosted the River Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday.

 

The first round saw WMC with conference record of 4-6 meeting the Muskegon Catholic Crusaders who posted an identical record.  WMC came out strong and defeated Catholic by scores of 25-20, and 25-22.

 

The Warriors then upset the undefeated #1 seed Tri-Unity Christian in three with scores of 25-14, 10-25, and 15-10.  They met #2 seed NorthPointe (5-5 in conference) and were handed a loss with scores of 23-25 and 19-25.

 

Sophomore Rachel Bruinsma served up 5 aces, 21 kills,15 digs and 6 blocks.  Vanessa Eekhoff  added 2 aces and 15 kills.  Elyse Ray had 15 kills and 7 blocks.  Victoria Arangure' came up with 13 digs and 53 assists.  Lauren Merz led the attack with 23 kills and added 14 digs and 4 blocks.

 

The the final results are as follows.

First Round:

MCC lost to WMC 20-25, 22-25.

NorthPointe Christian defeated Freedom Baptist 25-13, 25-16.

 

Second Round:

WMC defeated Tri-Unity Christian 25-14, 10-25, 15-10.

NorthPointe Christian defeated Covenant 25-19, 25-20.

 

MCC defeated Freedom  for 5th place with scores of 27-25, and 25-14.

Tri-Unity defeated Covenant for 3rd place 25-9 and 25-17.

 

In the final, NorthPointe Christian defeated WMC in two with scores of 25-23, and 25-19.

 

"We put it all together today," WMC coach Bret Noordhoff said. "It was very sweet to take down the undefeated Tri-Unity Defenders to advance and play NorthPointe in the final.  Second place was great, but we really wanted to take the whole show on our court.  I think we played well today, but first would have been a lot more satisfying.  Hopefully, going into Districts hungry will play to our advantage"
