WARRIORS HEAD NORTH AFTER REPEATING AS DISTRICT CHAMPS

Host Western Michigan Christian scored five goals in the space of about five minutes Saturday afternoon en route to an 8-0 District 4 State Soccer Championship win over Big Rapids Crossroads and a trip to next week's regional.

Senior Collin Breit scored three goals and classmates Jason Prince and David Cook added two each as the Warriors, ranked No. 3 in the state in Division 4 (18-2-1) move on to face Harbor Springs Harbor Light Christian at 4:30 p.m.Tuesday in the regional semi-final game at Suttons Bay. Junior Matt Wisen also added a goal as the Warriors out shot Crossroads 26-0.

Breit and Cook also each had two assists while Mitchel Landheer, Wisen and Chaise Schuitema also recorded assists

Harbor Light Christian knocked off No. 4 state-ranked Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy 3-1 last week to make it to the regional.

"It is tough to play these kind of games, especially twice in one week.   But, frankly we needed to have something come a little easy for one time," WMC coach David Hulings said.  "We have been on a relentless schedule with a lot of pressure on us. We knew we probably won the districts on Thursday (when the Warriors defeated state-ranked North Muskegon).

"The boys took a little while to get going tonight but we took care of business and that is what we are supposed to do.   We have a four game tournament left now.  We have to focus on each game.  Nothing will come easy."

In another district final involving two River Valley Conference teams, Covenant Christian sent Muskegon Catholic to the sidelines with a 2-0 win.
