WARRIORS WARM UP FOR DISTRICT WITH 3-0 WIN OVER FRUITPORT

Western Michigan Christian got ready Thursday night for next week's state district tournament action with a 3-0 regular season-ending win over Fruitport.

After several chances, the Warriors finally got on the board with just over a minute left in the first half when senior Matt DeKryger scored off an assist from classmate Collin Breit to give WMC a 1-0 halftime lead.

Then it was the freshmen's turns as Chaise Schuiteman found the net after receiving a pass from DeKryger and Alex Rop scored off an assist from Collin Breit.

WMC out shot the Trojans 22-9 and Warrior keeper Jacob Berens posted the shutout with six saves while Loghan Stong had 11 stops for Fruitport.

It was Senior Night at Western Michigan Christian and prior to the game, WMC's five seniors: Collin Breit, David and Jon Cook, DeKryger and Jason Prince were introduced along with their parents.

WMC, which is ranked No. 3 in Division 4, improved to 15-2-1 heading into Tuesday’s 7 p.m. opening district game against visiting Mason County Eastern at Warrior Field.

"This was a great win and a great tune up before districts," WMC coach David Hulings said. "It was fast and, even though we scored three times and missed a PK, the defense was well organized.  We had to figure out how to score against them and have perseverance.   We learned a lot tonight and this will be a good building block to get us moving into districts."
