NORTH MUSKEGON/WMC DROPS TO 3-4 IN FOOTBALL By The Muskegon Chronicle
OAKRIDGE 31, NORTH MUSKEGON 14: Host Oakridge jumped up 14-0 early in the second quarter after Jamie Potts ran in from a yard out. North Muskegon answered after Drake Cooke found Aaron Jones in the end zone on a 25-yard scoring pass. The Norse looked for a tie just before halftime when Jones tried to connect with Omari Lewis (WMC). Potts knocked down Jones’ pass and that kept the Eagles in the lead at the half. Oakridge opened the second half with a 64-yard drive that ended on a Nick Eely 2-yard touchdown run for a 21-7 lead. Brody Benson recovered a Potts’ fumble in the end zone for a score and Potts capped the scoring with a 37-yard field goal. John Waller (WMC) posted a 6-yard touchdown run for NM. Drake Cooke finished 18-of-34 for 321 yards for North Muskegon. Jones finished with 139 yards on eight catches and London Burris (WMC) had eight catches for 145 yards while DJ Berge had seven tackles on defense. BUTER SETS 'MODERN DAY' CROSS COUNTRY RECORD On Wednesday the Boys Cross Country team ran a more difficult course at Johnson Park. Even though it was more challenging, the boys team placed 5th and beat two other teams. Two runners broke the 20 minute barrier, won medals and set personal records. Zach Buter now holds the "modern" school record. He ran the course in 19:42 and placed 11th. Lucas Crandle set a personal record while coming in 14th. Brian Brook came in 19th. Gideon and Isaac Hanes rounded out the team and Isaac also set a personal record. |
