WMC SPORTS UPDATE 5/27/10

WARRIORS COME FROM BEHIND TO CLIP CARDINALS

 

 

Western Michigan Christian prepped for next week's district baseball tournament Wednesday with a 4-3 non-league win at Orchard View.

WMC's Josh Sweetman went the distance on the mound and posted the victory. Cody Jonas came on in relief for OV and took the loss.

Christian took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Tyler Lane.

OV took the lead with two runs in the third inning.

But the Warriors came back when Sweetman reached first on an error, stole second and scored on an error. Matt Wisen later scored on a fielder's choice by Ryan Hoffer.

Sweetman added an RBI single in the fifth to give WMC a 4-2 lead.

Orchard View (16-13) pulled to within a run on an RBI double by Shawn Keller, but stranded runners on second and third.

 

CARDINALS BEAT LADY WARRIORS

Host Orchard View defeated Western Michigan Christian 10-0 in girls softball Wednesday. OV's Megan Gue allowed one hit, striking out five in the win.

 

THURSDAY'S EVENTS

Boys golf district tournament at Chase Hammond at 9 a.m.

Boys and girls track will participate in West Michigan All-Star Invitational at Grand Haven.

Girls softball will host Holland Christian at 4:15 p.m.

Girls varsity soccer travels to Grand Rapids Christian for a 7 p.m. game.

 

POST SEASON PLAY

GOLF TEAM  SEEKS TO DEFEND DISTRICT TITLE TODAY

WMC's golf team begins defense of its district state championship today at 9 a.m. at Chase Hammond. A win would send the Warriors to the Manistee Country Club for regional action next week.

The Warriors return everyone from a team that finished 5th in the state last year.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Our Lady Warriors will begin play on Tuesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. against league-foe Covenant Christian. The winner will face Fruitport Calvary Christian in the second game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 3 with the winner advancing to Saturday's final at 11 a.m.

In the upper bracket, Ravenna and Muskegon Catholic will play at MCC at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1. The winner will face NorthPointe in the 5 p.m. game Thursday, June 3 with the winner advancing to Saturday's final at 11 a.m.

 

SOFTBALL

Our girls drew a bye and will play the winner of the Saturday, June 5  10 a.m. game between North Muskegon and Muskegon at MCC at noon.

 

BASEBALL

Baseball drew a bye and will play Potter's House at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 5 at Muskegon Catholic with the winner advancing to the final game at 3 p.m.

In the upper bracket, Tri-Unity and North Muskegon play at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 with the winner advancing to play Muskegon Catholic Central at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5. The winner of that game advances to the final at 3 p.m.
