WARRIORS BEAT MONTAGUE IN BASEBALL SECOND STRAIGHT TIME
Tyler Ray tossed a two-hitter to give Western Michigan Christian a 5-2 win Monday at Montague.
WMC's offense was led by Matt Wisen, Ryan Hoffer and Tim Schuitema with two hits apiece. Ray, Austin Sandin and Henry DeKam each had a hit.
In the Greater Muskegon Tournament Saturday, WMC defeated the Wildcats 6-5.
SOFTBALL DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT TO WILDCATS
The Warriors dropped their second straight game to Montague by a score of 10-1. The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a base hit by Sam Brondyke and a run scoring single by LaRissa Byma. The Warriors added a couple more hits and some well hit outs but could not add to their run total.
WEST OTTAWA EDGES WMC 2-0 IN SOCCER
West Ottawa scored a goal at the end of each half to defeated Western Michigan Christian 2-0 Monday.
It was a very evenly fought battle throughout the first half with both teams getting a few good looks at goal, but WMC was unable to find pay dirt. West Ottawa scored with five minutes left in the first half.
The second half found WMC moving the ball somewhat better, defending very well to limit any strong runs for West Ottawa, and earning some pretty good looks again, but with no goals. West Ottawa would seal the deal with about 3 minutes left in the game on a served ball into the Warriors box from well outside that was tucked in to end the game at 2-0. Shots on goal were 14-9 with West Ottawa holding that advantage.
"I thought we played one of our better defensive games, despite having the 2-0 score at the end," WMC coach Dan McAllister said. "We did a great job in our final third of the field, limiting their opportunities. We generated quite a lot of attacks into their box, but could not seem to get as many of the looks we hoped for. West Ottawa is a good Division I team so overall I was very pleased with how we played.
"These kind of games make us better in the games that matter most, but I always feel disappointed for my players when they play as well as they did tonight, but don't get the result they could have on the scoreboard. This sets us up for the second round of conference play beginning Tuesday at Covenant. I think the girls are very ready for this next run."
